Selects Motorola’s TETRA digital radio system
for its proven reliability, security and advanced technology
GUANGZHOU, China, 22 March 2006 — Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today
announced that the Guangzhou Rail Transportation has once again selected
Motorola’s TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) digital trunking radio
system for the City’s metro’s Line 5 and 6 operations. Both projects are valued
at approximately RMB 58 million (US$7 million) and will be deployed on a
40-station urban rail network that runs from the east to the west of Guangzhou.
This will be the third TETRA deployment for the City’s rail operator.
“Reliability, operational efficiency and safety were critical considerations.
After careful evaluation, we decided on Motorola’s dispatch communication
system based on their proven success in TETRA rail implementations. Combined
with Motorola’s advanced technology, the new system will give us an advantage
to seamlessly communicate and interoperate with the first responders in times
of mission-critical or emergency operations, as and when needed,” said a user
from Guangzhou Metro.
Targeted for completion by December 2008, the contract will further equip the
Metro with 50 units of the high performance Enhanced Base Transceiver Systems
(EBTS), more than 900 units of the MTP850 portable radio with Chinese language
support, and 400 units of Motorola’s latest TETRA mobile, MTM 800, for its users.
“Once again, Motorola has proven to be the partner-of-choice for
enterprise-class TETRA rail communications systems. Customers like Guangzhou
Metro have come to trust Motorola for our expertise, experience and deep
understanding of the rail industry to see that every intrinsic detail and
communication requirement is addressed,” said Chew Guan Sing, general manager
of North Asia, Motorola’s Government & Enterprise Mobility Solutions
business. “In China, we have worked on several key digital trunking migration
