HORSHAM, Pa. – 22 May 2006 – Motorola, Inc.
(NYSE: MOT) today announced that Comcast will place an order for the Motorola
SBV5220, a combination modem and phone adapter, also known as an embedded
Multimedia Terminal Adapter (eMTA), located in customers’ homes. This order
comes after the SBV5220 successfully completed an extensive hardware and
software qualification process.
The Motorola SBV5220 is equipped with an integrated Lithium-ion battery
back-up, which provides up to eight hours of battery back-up in the event of a
power outage in the home. Comcast expects to offer the Motorola eMTA in the
second half of 2006 to Comcast Digital Voice customers nationwide.
Part of Motorola’s expansive portfolio of telephony products, the SBV5220
serves as a single device connecting customers to their digital voice and
high-speed Internet services. The SBV5220 can power up to two phone lines in
the home using standard RJ-11 connectors. The eMTA can connect to a computer
through either a 10/100Base-T Ethernet or a USB data port.
“Comcast’s qualification process ensures that the products we offer customers
are as reliable as the high-quality services that we deliver,” said Cathy Avgiris,
senior vice president and general manager of Comcast Voice services. “Motorola
has met these exacting standards, and we are pleased to add the Motorola
SBV5220 as part of our Comcast Digital Voice offering.”
“Comcast utilizes a broad range of Motorola products to deliver its services,”
said Charles Dougherty, Motorola corporate vice president and general manager,
connected home voice and data solutions. “Comcast services coupled with
high-quality, Motorola cable modems have proven to be a popular consumer choice
on the data side, and we are thrilled to work with Comcast to apply the same
winning formula to the Comcast Digital Voice offering.”
The qualification and subsequent order expands the relationship between the two
companies. Motorola now is a certified Comcast supplier of: voice-enabled
modems, high-speed data modems, digital video set-tops, cable modem termination
systems, video headend equipment, and conditional access technologies. Motorola
also provides Comcast with program management and deployment services for the
implementation of IP-enabled voice services in select Comcast markets
