“Zero Click” access to current affairs, sports,
entertainment and other news via Motorola RAZR V3i
Macau – 24 May 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in
wireless communications, today joined forces with CTM to introduce SCREEN3™ in
Macau, the first City in Asia to launch the service. SCREEN3™ is an innovative
technology solution that lets consumers get news, sports, entertainment, and
other premium content and services directly from their Motorola RAZR V3i
handset’s home screen without having to push any buttons or launch a browser.
Motorola’s SCREEN3™ employs a media gateway server to manage the delivery of
relevant content based on the specific media channels a user subscribes to.
Additionally, the SCREEN3™ solution enlists a “smart synchronization” function
that ensures only the latest, freshest content gets delivered and displayed on
the device’s home screen. This in turn minimizes network traffic and thus increases
consumer satisfaction.
The end result of this entire service is that users are presented seamlessly,
and in a simple, organised manner, all the latest news headlines for that
specific channel subscribed to.
“Subscribers want the latest mobile content without having to click, scroll and
hunt through menus for it and network operators want to be able to do more with
mobile data services,” said Cedric So, general manager of Mobile Devices
Business, Motorola Hong Kong. “With SCREEN3™, we address both sets of needs,
making the mobile phone the next major media hub by putting content where it
belongs, in front of subscribers’ eyes, zero-clicks away.”
Motorola’s SCREEN3™ solution is designed to help operators drive mobile data
usage and generate revenue. Operator studies show a drop off in users with
every click that it takes to access content. By placing targeted content and
promotions on the device home screen — where it’s easy access and impossible to
miss — subscribers are more likely to try and use data services. In addition,
operators can leverage an additional channel for special promotion offers and
services.
Motorola works closely with Macau CTM to provide valued added services to
users. Under the partnership, all GPRS
fees on news auto updates (default settings) are waived and users can enjoy
extra benefits for free.
Motorola’s SCREEN3™ offers four default channels, including three from Oriental
Daily News (top stories, entertainment, and business) and one from Macau Daily
News (top stories). There are also four additional channels users are able to
choose from to suit their own personal needs, thereby tailoring their SCREEN3™
service to what they want. These four extra channels include Macau Daily News
(business) and three from orisun.com (lifestyle, football, and horse racing).
The Motorola RAZR V3i, on which the SCREEN3™ service is available, now comes in
two new, attention-grabbing shades – maroon and deep violet. Merging the latest
in cellular features with deep, jewel-tone shades and rich-looking finishes,
the new RAZR V3i is the epitome of mobile sophistication. Beneath the stunning
exterior, this handset is enhanced with the latest multimedia tools including
an integrated 1.23 megapixel digital camera with full screen view-finder, zoom,
video capture and playback, and MicroSD removable memory. Cutting-edge
music capabilities complete the mobile package, allowing consumers to define
their mobile personality through their musical tastes and colour preference.
Complementing its good looks, the Motorola RAZR V3i is equipped
with quad-band technology so users can travel from country to country and stay
connected. And with Bluetooth® wireless technology and speaker-independent name
and digit dialling, users can conveniently communicate hands-free.
SCREEN3™ will be available on a variety of additional Motorola handsets over
the next several months.
