Motorola Releases First FOMA PC Card for HSDPA

Japan’s first PC card for maximum 3.6 Mbps HSDPA high-speed data transmission supports international roaming for smooth broadband data transmission.

TOKYO, Japan - 26 September 2006 - Motorola Japan Ltd. announced the release of the FOMA M2501 (“M2501”), a high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) card. The product will be available from September 29 (Fri.) through mobile carrier, NTT DoCoMo.

The M2501 is Japan’s first PC card to support international roaming in 142 countries and is compatible with GSM/GPRS/3G(WCDMA). Users can now experience seamless roaming throughout Japan’s FOMA high-speed coverage area and abroad, with a downlink speed of maximum 3.6 Mbps enabling fast data transmission at roughly 10 times the speed of conventional handsets.

Motorola Acquires Vertasent, Enhances Company’s Next-Generation Digital Video Platform

SCHAUMBURG, Il. – 25 September 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today enhanced its next-generation video network platform with the acquisition of Vertasent, LLC.

Based in Colmar, Pa, Vertasent is a privately held developer of software applications that enables services such as content-on-demand or IPTV to share resources and be delivered over a common infrastructure. Vertasent’s applications manage the elements in a “switched” digital video network – a key area of interest for cable operators. A switched video architecture can increase available bandwidth in a cable network by dynamically transmitting only those channels currently being watched in a given neighbourhood.

“Over the past several years, consumer demand for advanced video services, such as Video-on-Demand and High-Definition TV (HDTV) service, has risen rapidly. In response, pay-TV service providers are broadening the availability of many advanced services in order to reach a wider array of home and mobile devices,” according to Mike Paxton, a cable TV industry analyst at In-Stat, a leading technology research firm.

“Motorola’s acquisition of Vertasent, coupled with its purchase of Broadbus Technologies earlier this summer, now allows the company to provide pay-TV service providers with an end-to-end, open standards hardware and software portfolio that supports advanced video services and improves bandwidth management,” said Paxton.

Vertasent’s Integrated Resource Management solution is based on industry-standard interfaces and protocols. This can reduce expense for providers by eliminating the need to add dedicated equipment for each new service and offers the opportunity to select a best-in-class device for each element of the video network.

Together with Motorola’s existing on-demand hardware solutions, the Vertasent system can offer service providers three key benefits:
(1) an open platform for expanding their program offering to potentially include millions of live and on-demand titles;
(2) the additional flexibility to more efficiently migrate to an all-digital network architecture; and
(3) the ability to stream video programming to any device.

“Motorola is today delivering solutions that make seamless video – in and out of the home – a reality. Vertasent will play a critical role in our technology strategy, by providing the software ‘glue’ that unifies the management of advanced services and the standards-based video components in the network,” said Dan Moloney, President, Motorola Connected Home Solutions. “Motorola’s robust digital video platform now gains the unparalleled flexibility to deliver content one-to-one or one-to-many – over a common network infrastructure.”

Financial terms of the completed transaction were not disclosed. Vertasent’s management team and employees are expected to remain based in Colmar, Pa and be integrated into the Motorola Connected Home Solutions business.

Kansas City Power & Light Energizes Its Network with Motorola’s PTP 58600 Fixed Broadband Solution

Utility company takes innovative approach to improving network reliability

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - 20 September 2006 - Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L), a leading regulated provider of electricity in the Midwest, has deployed Motorola’s PTP 58600 broadband wireless point-to-point Ethernet bridges, formerly known as Orthogon Systems OS-Spectra, to provide higher levels of capacity, security and reliability to the utility company’s internal data communications network.

The PTP 58600 wireless Ethernet bridges are part of Motorola’s MOTOwi4™ portfolio of innovative wireless broadband solutions and services that creates, complements and completes IP networks. Delivering IP coverage to virtually all spaces, the MOTOwi4 portfolio includes Fixed Broadband, Mesh, Broadband over Powerline, and WiMAX solutions for private and public networks.

A pioneer in adopting leading-edge wireless technologies, KCP&L selected the PTP 58600 because of its easy integration into its existing network and to support newer, advanced internal applications, such as remote monitoring. KCP&L operates a 15-year-old 6 GHz licensed system throughout its service area, connecting power plants, substations and corporate locations. This system could no longer handle the high-bandwidth requirements for Internet access, multimedia or VoIP applications. In addition, KCP&L was looking to upgrade its data network to better meet its future needs.

This deployment was unique because instead of completely replacing the existing 6 GHz licensed network, KCP&L decided to run the PTP 58600 network, an unlicensed spectrum solution, in parallel with the current system. By using Motorola’s wi4 Fixed Broadband solutions, KCP&L is able to provide additional communications capacity, and improved reliability to its network at a reasonable cost.

To date, KCP&L has deployed 33 PTP 58600 bridges that deliver 100 Mbps across its entire network, spanning over 200 miles from end to end. In addition, high-reliability throughout the network is sustained because of the PTP 58600’s ability to combat fading over long distances.

“KCP&L’s commitment to using technology has helped us achieve top-tier operating performance, resulting in an outstanding record of reliability and high customer satisfaction,” said John Marshall, senior vice president, Delivery, at KCP&L. “When it came time to add additional bandwidth to our network, we turned to Orthogon Systems for a powerful, high-capacity system that was cost-efficient and provided the necessary flexibility for future beneficial applications.”

Motorola acquired Orthogon Systems, a recognized leader in wireless solutions for reliable connectivity in difficult environments, in May 2006. Orthogon Systems products now are offered by Motorola’s Point-to-Point Wireless Solutions Group.

Motorola and PCCW Launch Mobile TV Technical Trial in Hong Kong

Demonstrates End-to-End Solution Based on DVB-H Standard

HONG KONG – 20 September 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT), a global leader in mobile communications today announced an agreement with PCCW-HKT Telephone Limited, a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s leading telecommunications provider, PCCW Limited (SEHK: 0008, NYSE ADR: PCW), to conduct a six-month technical trial using Motorola’s end-to-end Mobile TV system in Hong Kong.

The trial will run from September 2006 to March 2007 within Hong Kong’s Quarry Bay district and will include Motorola DVB-H enabled mobile devices, network solutions and interactive services platform. During the course of the trial, PCCW will evaluate the technical capabilities and the operational performance of DVB-H in Hong Kong.
