Motorola’s Use of AmberPoint SOA Management
System Recognized
as a Model for the Industry
Oakland, Calif. and Schaumburg, IL – October 16, 2006 — AmberPoint and
Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) have been jointly honoured as the winners in the
Services Oriented Computing category of the Technology Managers Forum 2006 Best
Practices Program. Motorola was selected for its ongoing use of AmberPoint’s
Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) runtime governance system to monitor and
manage the performance of its services-based applications. With its
AmberPoint-managed SOA systems, Motorola is able to introduce new applications
faster and integrate Information Technology (IT) systems more flexibly. In an
industry where speed to market is imperative, Motorola’s IT infrastructure is
more agile and efficient.
The Technology Managers Forum includes IT directors and executives of major
Fortune 1000 corporations. Best Practices Awards winners such as AmberPoint and
Motorola are chosen because their IT programs denote a standard of excellence
and provide a model for the entire industry that can be quantified, adapted and
repeated.
“This honour is a great validation of the work we continue to do at Motorola to
create systems that help our customers seamlessly stay connected,” said Toby
Redshaw, corporate vice president of Information Technology at Motorola. “We
are glad to share this award with our partner AmberPoint, whose technology
plays such a crucial role in our SOA systems. We have experienced a great
increase in agility and costs savings from services-based systems and recognize
that these benefits would not be possible without a robust SOA infrastructure.”
A Fortune 100 company known around the world for innovation and leadership in
wireless and broadband communications, Motorola was early to recognize the
advantages of SOA, and implemented a standards-based application architecture
to enable its IT teams to deliver projects by using composite application
tools. With AmberPoint, Motorola is able to understand and control its growing
network of Web services so that it can reliably use them for business-driving
applications. AmberPoint monitors the systems, manages performance and
availability, detects and resolves faults and provides access control to the
hundreds of Web services Motorola has implemented for business-to-business,
business-to-consumer and business-to-government initiatives. Last month, Information
Week magazine ranked Motorola #12 among
the top 500 information technology (IT) innovators in 2006 and #1
in the manufacturing industry segment.
“Motorola and AmberPoint are truly leaders in leveraging service-oriented
computing,” said Priscilla Tate, Executive Director, Technology Managers Forum.
“Motorola, with the tools provided by AmberPoint, has been able to manage and
deploy more than a hundred Web services and respond quickly to requests for new
services from its business units. Together, they have created an application
architecture for Web service deployment that is based on standards and
components that can be reused across projects and business units."
“We strive to work closely with all our customers and are pleased to receive
this recognition for our work with Motorola,” said Ed Horst, vice president of
Marketing at AmberPoint. “This award demonstrates the vital role management
plays in the success of service-oriented computing. It’s an honour to be
singled out as a best practice for SOA.”
The Best Practice Awards (BPA) is an annual program sponsored by Technology
Managers Forum. First held in 1996, the awards recognize quality achievements
in technology management that provide a competitive advantage to the business
environment. Projects entered must affect at least 200 users and be deployed by
organizations with at least $200 million in gross annual revenue. The winning
programs will be profiled and presented on Thursday, October 19th at the
TechForum's 13th annual fall conference for enterprise IT managers, Security
Forum 2006, http://www.techforum.com/sf2006_2/index.html.
