SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – 5 December 2006 – Motorola,
Inc. (NYSE:MOT) through Motorola Ventures, its strategic venture capital arm,
today announced that it has made an equity investment in Mobile Complete.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Motorola Ventures led the
investment in Mobile Complete as part of a Series B Financing, along with
participation from a previous investor, Innovacom VC.
Founded in 2003, Mobile Complete develops, test and deploys mobile applications
and services. The company launched DeviceAnywhere.com in December 2005 to help
content providers address the issue of handset proliferation by accessing real
mobile devices over the Internet at any time, from any location. This rapidly
growing service has been deployed across 10 carrier networks and five
locations, including the US, Canada, and the UK.
“Motorola’s intense focus on quality aligns with Mobile Complete’s focus on
improving device manufacturers' ability to rapidly test and deploy software,”
said Warren Holtsberg, corporate vice president, equity investments at
Motorola. “ We believe its Direct-to-Device™ technology enables the larger
mobile devices ecosystem and developer community to more quickly and
cost-efficiently develop and monitor applications across a range of Motorola
handsets running on wireless operator's networks globally.”
Mobile Complete’s patent-pending Direct-To-Device™ technology consists of
proprietary software that allows the remote control and operation of mobile
handsets directly from the user’s PC. Content providers are able to install
their applications, download content over-the-air, and develop, port, or test
the compatibility of their content with these handsets. Unlike emulators, the
technology allows the content provider to remotely operate the actual device,
listen to ringers and speakers, and capture screens including video streams,
providing a true user experience.
“Motorola Ventures is aligning with proven technology, products, and a
strong business model, with a roster of 650 plus customers that includes major
mobile content and application developers, network operators and device
manufacturers,” said Faraz Syed, CEO of Mobile Complete.
As the second most active globally-focused corporate venture capital arm,
Motorola Ventures is investing up to $150 million per year in a diversified
portfolio of technology firms, and intensely focused on helping to accelerate
Motorola's seamless mobility vision.
