Southern Weekend ranks Motorola China number two
citing investment, performance and brand recognition as driving factors
Beijing, China – 27 November, 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) a global leader
in wireless and broadband communications, announced today that Southern
Weekend, an influential Chinese business newspaper, rated Motorola the
number two spot in its survey of Most Influential Fortune 500 Companies
operating in China. It also ranked Motorola highest in a list of
Best-Performing Fortune 500 Companies.
Southern Weekend has a circulation of 1.3 million. It conducts an annual
poll of Fortune 500 Companies operating in China citing financial performance,
investment in China, regional contributions, corporate social responsibility
and brand recognition as criteria. Motorola moved up the list from the number
four spot in 2005.
Southern Weekend used specific parameters to gauge the Fortune 500
companies doing business in China. For example, it measured these companies’
business performance by total revenues, pre-tax profit and exports, regional
contributions by tax payment, employment of local staff, local sourcing and
number of R&D centres, corporate social responsibilities by employee
benefits, quality of products and services, environmental protection,
involvement in public welfare and corporate governance.

Today, Motorola has one holding company, three wholly owned companies, five
joint ventures, 18 R&D centres and 25 branch offices across China. At the
end of 2005, the number of employees exceeded 10,000, and the total cumulative
investment in China reached US$3.6 billion, making it one of the largest
foreign investors in China.
