Voluntary program provides expedited airport
security clearance at U.S. airports
ANAHEIM, Calif. - 03 January 2007 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced successful
deployment of its biometric technology to be used by the Transportation
Security Clearinghouse (TSC) for the Registered Traveller Program. The
Registered Traveller Program provides expedited security screening processes
and an extra layer of security for passengers who volunteer biometric and
biographic information and who successfully complete a security assessment.
Motorola’s technology is based an open and scaleable Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA) that will perform multi-modal biometric matching to ensure
participants have their information securely stored and quickly retrieved when
they pass through airport security checkpoints. Participating travellers will
benefit from quick passage through identity checks while upholding security
polices.
“Motorola’s biometric solution offered the pricing and system design that best
suited the requirements of the Registered Traveller Program. Motorola’s
technology in matching accuracy and speed, as well as system longevity and
interoperability made them the preferred choice for the TSC,” stated Carter
Morris, American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) senior vice president
for Transportation Security Policy.
Motorola delivered its latest identity management matching server built on
commercial off the shelf products with open system architecture which allows
TSC to expand and upgrade the system as needed. Furthermore, this off the shelf
strategy provides TSC with flexibility to drive system functionality, as future
demand requires. Motorola’s identity management solutions are optimised to
function with all standards compliant formats, ensuring system interoperability
on a national level.
“Motorola successfully deployed the initial system in only three weeks. The
system is designed to be easily expanded to meet future demands as the
Registered Traveller program expands in popularity,” stated Darrin Reilly,
general manager, Motorola Biometrics Business Unit. “We are committed to
teaming with our customers to develop flexible solutions that meet their current
and future demands and to deploy solutions in the time frames they require.”
Motorola is a leading provider of mission critical communication technologies,
including identity management biometric solutions and Automated Fingerprint
Identification Systems (AFIS) to help government and enterprise agencies
accurately identify individuals. Motorola is one of the world’s leading
biometric companies, with trusted biometric solutions deployed in nearly 40
countries.
About the TSC
In 2001, AAAE created the Transportation Security Clearinghouse, a wholly-owned
non-for-profit subsidiary, which has become the nation’s largest civilian
clearinghouse, processing both biometric and name-based background vetting
requests. The Transportation Security Clearinghouse created a new model in
providing one central location where the mandated task of checking the
backgrounds of over two million airport, airline, general aviation and TSA
employees can begin and end. The TSC has established a quick and secure method
to collect employee fingerprints, biographical data, and user payments and
offer customer service for over 500 airports and multiple airlines across the
country for further processing by the FBI and multiple DHS vetting databases.
AAAE, founded in 1928, is made up of over 5,000 members who are responsible for
managing and operating the nation’s airports.
