Multiple Personality
The MOTOMING is Motorola’s first mobile device with a dual-language “talking” dictionary. Users enter a word in a native language; the on-board handwriting recognition allows the text to be entered naturally by writing directly on the large 1.5" x 2" screen. The word is then “spoken” aloud by the device in a foreign language. Simultaneously, the definition of the word is displayed on-screen in the native language. Motorola to Manage Multi-Vendor Network Performance Services for TMN’s 2G and 3G Networks in Portugal

Deal demonstrates continued innovation and leadership in network performance services

This service will help TMN improve the radio access network performance in a timely and cost-effective manner.

NTT DoCoMo and retailers reporting MOTORAZR is flying off the shelves a week after device was introduced

TOKYO – 23 December 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), a global leader in wireless communications, today announced that MOTORAZR (M702iS) with iMode® is flying off the shelves in stores all around Japan a week after the device began reaching retailers.

MOTORAZR, which unites the power of DoCoMo’s powerful FOMA® 3G network and its wildly successful iMode bouquet of services and content with the iconic MOTORAZR design, began selling in Japan on December 14. Motorola and DoCoMo spent many months preparing to bring the top selling MOTORAZR to Japan, ensuring that the device would deliver a superior iMode experience.

Norway awards Motorola biometric passports and visa contract

Company delivers “multi-mode” identity management solution combining fingerprints, 2D face and signature capture

Basingstoke, UK – 5 December 2006 – Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced a contract with Norway’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (UD) and the National Police Computing and Material Service (PDMT) to provide for the collection and verification of biometric data for Norwegian passports, visas and other travel documents. Biometric data provides the capability to identify people through unique physical attributes such as fingerprints, the iris, or face characteristics.

The Motorola solution for Norway will be one of the first in Europe that follows EU standards for passport and visa application system to include fingerprints, 2D face and signature capture — a “multi-mode” mix that helps ensure data integrity and security by enabling several sources of identification versus just one.

Motorola will supply approximately 700 fixed enrolment stations for use in Norway and a further 100 portable versions for use in Norwegian embassies and other enrolment centres around the globe. Finger print capture will be capable of supporting 1000 pixels per inch (PPI) images, as well as the more common 500 PPI. The goal of the technology is to help make the passport and visa enrolment process easier for applicants while providing data that can help the Norway UD and the PDMT strengthen cross border security.

Motorola will provide additional software for biometric capture to guide applicants through the enrolment process, including local language versions for the portable units. Although the process may still be overseen by a member of staff, the front-end software makes the enrolment stations very easy for applicants to use and therefore minimises the level of support required from enrolment staff.

“Simplicity is the key to making these systems work for us,” says Elin Østebø Johansen, Director General in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs “It is very important to us that we offer people an easy way to apply for a passport or visa that include new biometric requirements. The enrolment process will be fast and intuitive, collecting biometric data at the same time as the demographic information that has always been required.”

The Identity Management and Security Solutions from Motorola capture, manage and protect travel-related biometric data in line with International Civilian Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards. The solution will also meet the specifications of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) on the storage, secure encryption and interoperability of biometric information, as well as satisfying the requirements of Norway’s Personal Data Act.

Pink Christmas: MOTORAZR hits Tokyo at celebrity bash

Paris Hilton joins the fun as world's most popular mobile handset launches in Tokyo

TOKYO – 23 December 2006 – Paris Hilton joined a celebrity-studded party in Tokyo last night to help Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT), the global leader in mobile phone fashion, launch the record-setting MOTORAZR handset with DoCoMo in Japan. In an evening overflowing with entertainment, fun, and more than a few surprises, Motorola's guests partied the night away in a massive transparent pink tent, perched in the heart of Tokyo with a backdrop of historic Tsukiji Hongwanji Temple, designed to capture the essence of MOTORAZR in its now-trademark Hot Pink colour.

As the festivities began, guests sipped pink MOTORAZR cocktails created especially for the occasion, while enjoying buskers, stilt walkers, and other interactive artists that set the whimsical tone for the evening. Partygoers were then treated to a dance performance that preceded "Kagamiwari" (the traditional breaking of ceremonial sake barrels, speeches and toasts offered by Motorola and DoCoMo executives.

As MOTORAZR, available for barely a week in Japan, flew off the shelves in DoCoMo and retail stores around the country, celebrants enjoyed a procession of specially created savouries from the award-winning chef, Stephane Foucher. The piece de resistance among the delicacies were thin strips of fresh pink sashimi sliced from a whole six-foot-long tuna at a specially designed ice table, with Paris Hilton joining Motorola executives to take the ceremonial first slice.

The highlight of the evening's entertainment was an exclusive recital by the accomplished British soprano and stage chanteuse Joanne Pullen, principal soprano in over a dozen London musicals. The evening was rounded out with a modern edge delivered by renowned mixmaster DJ Kulu.
